IPL-Cricket, Indian premier league (IPL) is a popular cricket league played in India. It is professionally organized twenty 20 cricket league every year by various franchise teams that represents Indian cities. IPL was found by a member of (BCCI) board of control for cricket in India Mr. Lalit modi in the year 2007. The league is scheduled every year in the month of April and May. Even the title of the league is sponsored every year by different companies. In 2016 the title of the league was sponsored by Vivo electronics. Therefore, officially the league was known as a Vivo Indian premier league.
Initially, in 2007 the fund for (ICL) Indian cricket league was provided by the Zee entertainment enterprises. Later business and cricket executive Lalit modi was appointed by BCCI to make the start of a new league that rival the ICL.
Out of every cricket league organized in the world the most attended is the Indian premier league. Amongst every sports league, IPL is ranked sixth. The estimated brand value of the IPL in 2015 was US $3.5 billion by an American appraisal. According to BCCI, the total contribution of 2015 league in (GDP) gross domestic product of the nation is 11.5 billion. This was the great contribution in Indian economy. Since the first season the IPL league 13 teams have competed each other and out of that 6 teams have won the title at least once.
The teams that have won the title twice are: Chennai super kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata knight riders. While Deccan chargers, sunrises Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals have won the title only once. In the 2016 season of IPL the winner was sunrises Hyderabad. The announcement of two new franchises joining the league was made on 21st march 2010 before the fourth season of 2011. That was Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune warriors India. It was a Sahara adventure sports group who bought Pune franchise that costs $370 million. While Kochi franchise was bought by Rendezvous sports world by costing $333.3 million. However, In 2011 Kochi Tuskers Kerala was terminated on the ground of breaching terms and condition of BCCI.
In June 2015, two times champion Rajasthan Royals and Chennai super kings were suspended for the next two seasons on the grounds of betting scandal and match fixing. Then on December 2015 it was held by auction that Rajkot and Pune would replace Rajasthan and Chennai for the two seasons. The teams were named as Gujarat lions and Rising Pune Supergiant. Currently, eight teams are each other and out of them four teams qualify for the finals. Every team acquires its player by way of auction, signing uncapped players, signing a domestic player, signing replacements and trading players.
Also, there are various rules for team composition they are:
- Squad strength of minimum 16 players. One coach and physiotherapist.
- In each squad minimum 14 Indian players should be included.
- More than 10 foreign players shall not be included in the squad.
- Each squad must have a minimum of six players from BCCI under 22 pools.
Even, there is no time limit for the teams to complete their innings. During each inning, two and half hour strategic timeout is given to each team.
In IPL 2015 season the total prize money that was offered was 40 corers. Out of this 15 corer was awarded to the winning team and first and second runner up with a prize money of 10 and 7.5 corer respectively. Also, individual awards are given to players. Orange cap is given to top run scorer in IPL.
